New Altar Server Training
Our servers range in age from 6th grade through High School Seniors. All new 6th graders and any higher grade member who would like to become an altar server is invited to sign up for one of two training sessions: TBD
You may sign up by downloading a registration form from the parish website and emailing it to liturgy-ministries@simonandjude.org, or by completing this form and returning it to the rectory (via school or CCD). The enthusiasm of our young people for the liturgy brings life to our parish.
The altar servers in our parish have a special support in the Masters of Ceremonies (MC's). The ten MC's are servers (mostly in high school) who assist me in training new servers and keeping all servers up to date. They also are responsible for making sure that the servers come fifteen minutes early for their scheduled Masses. The MC's meet the servers before each Sunday Mass to brief the servers about their various responsibilities before, during and after the Mass. The MC's help to organize major liturgies, such as Christmas, Easter and Confirmation. The MC's have been trained in fire safety issues, the names of everything in the sacristy, and the parts of the Mass. The MC's are at your service.
Please note that our parish website is an important tool for our servers. There are instructions for altar servers posted on the parish website, including a list of definitions which all servers are asked to learn. The schedule for liturgical ministers (servers, MC's, readers, EME-Communion Ministers, ushers) is posted on the parish website in pdf format. You can always email liturgy-ministries@simonandjude.org with questions. Please check the schedule regularly, and if you are schedule to serve at a particular Mass but are unable, THE PARISH IS COUNTING ON YOU TO CALL ANOTHER SERVER AND ARRANGE FOR A SUBSTITUTE. At the training session, you will receive a phone list of all the servers and MC's.
