Information for Children's Liturgy of the Word
Sundays at the 9:00 and 10:30 Masses
All children in Grades K to 5 are encouraged to participate. The children are invited to process to the Chapel to hear God's Word proclaimed. We are celebrating the Mass with the children just as we do in Church. After the 1st Reading, the Responsorial Psalm and Alleluia are sung, followed by the Gospel. The children reflect on what was heard, pray the Creed, Prayer of the Faithful and then return to the main Church for the Liturgy of the Eucharist.
The same readings are read as what is read in the main Church, however, the Lectionary for Children's Masses is used as it is written in a simpler language for children to understand. Would You like to be part of this ministry?
Leaders & Co-Leaders:
Proclaim the Readings, Responsorial Psalm, Alleluia, Gospel and lead the Reflection & Prayers.
Planning Guides are available to help with preparation of Reflection so the children can respond and live what they have heard.
Approximately 1 hour is requested every 2 months for this job.
Shepherds:
Watch over children on the way to and from the Chapel and during Liturgy, helping them stay focused on the weekly theme.
No additional time is needed to prepare for this task.
Reminders:
When you enter the church, please sit in the sections closest to the chapel. This will allow the children to get to the chapel and return to their seats in a timely manner.
Please reserve your child's seat with the green signs located on the tables behind the last pews.
We strive to keep a reverent atmosphere during Children's Liturgy of the Word. Please remind your children to be attentive while in the Chapel so all can benefit from the readings and reflection.
Children's Liturgy of the Word is geared toward children, ages 5 to 12. However, children vary in their spiritual development. Some older children (ages 10 - 12) benefit from attending Children's Liturgy, whereas others benefit from remaining in the church, hearing the readings and homily given by the priest. Please keep in mind the needs of your older child when considering Children's Liturgy.
We ask that children younger than 5 be accompanied by an adult.
If your child would like to carry a decorated pole or the Children's Lectionary in procession, please contact one of the coordinators below.
Please prayerfully consider being a part of this ministry. Is the Lord calling you to proclaim the Word of God to our children? If you would like to volunteer, or have any questions or concerns, please call:
