St Veronica - Our Sister Parish

You have often heard us call St Veronica our "Sister Parish." This term has become common in our time for naming a relationship of cooperation between parishes.

11 years ago, Father Donald McNamara, who had worked in SS Simon and Jude Parish for 9 years, became pastor of St Veronica. Without his even asking, some of our fine parishioners, with Father Meehan's happy cooperation, warmly arranged a program of cooperation and kindness with St Veronica's. From then on, we have been blessed to be walking with them!

Twice a year our second collection is dedicated to St Veronica's. We also find other means of helping, such as the sharing of proceeds from Christmas and Easter Memorials and other kindnesses from our people.

Once a year we exchange choirs and pulpits. Have you enjoyed the wonderful Hispanic tones at the 10:30 Mass? Fr Eduardo Coll, the present Pastor of St Veronica's, comes to SS Simon and Jude to speak and Fr Meehan also travels to St Veronica with our choir and other interested parishioners.

Next year in February, we will once again travel to St Veronica's. It will be wonderful to have more of our parishioners join us. It is a joyful experience to see and know the gift of another church.

We Anglos can learn so much from our Hispanic brothers and sisters, in love, devotion, warmth, joy. We are very grateful for them, and also for the wonderful cooperation of our parishioners throughout the years.
